Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Retired Diplomat): Pakistan places a high priority on its relationships with all the Central Asian Republics, with Kyrgyzstan, our neighbor to the west, holding particular importance. We share deep cultural and religious affinities, along with many other common values. Both nations are striving toward development, and Pakistan’s influence in Kyrgyzstan is evident in the sizable number of Pakistani students pursuing medical education there. Pakistan also offers scholarships to students from Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian republics; however, language barriers can prevent CAR students from fully benefiting from these opportunities. Once the situation in Afghanistan stabilizes, our business communities should be better positioned to engage with Kyrgyzstan. In the meantime, there are still significant obstacles in this area. The CASA initiative represents a major opportunity for regional connectivity and shared growth, and it is poised to be a transformative force for the region. At present, the deteriorating security and political situation in Afghanistan is hindering trade and commercial activity between Pakistan and the Central Asian Republics.
