MCA Crisis: Ti Lian Ker Slams Wee Ka Siong's DAP Obsession, Demands Leadership Reset (2026)

Are DAP attacks overshadowing MCA's path forward? That's the burning question former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker is posing to party president Wee Ka Siong. In a recent critique, Ti expressed concern that Wee's opening speech at the general assembly prioritized attacks on the DAP over addressing MCA's future and leadership direction. But here's where it gets controversial... Ti suggests Wee missed a crucial chance to redefine MCA's political stance. He believes the Ayer Hitam MP should have left the DAP criticism to others.

Instead, Ti argues, Wee fell back on familiar criticisms, such as those concerning the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), and revisited old narratives. Ti, a former senator, stated that Wee should have frankly acknowledged the party's challenges. He pointed out that MCA isn't losing because of misunderstandings, but because it's perceived as lacking inspiration, relevance, and urgency.

Ti highlighted MCA's lack of representation in Sabah and its limited presence in Peninsular Malaysia, noting that urban Chinese voters are not supporting MCA.

And this is the part most people miss... Ti also raised the issue of leadership succession, with MCA delegates reportedly wondering who will take over in 2027, when Wee's nine-year term limit ends. Delegates are eager to know whether Wee will pass the leadership to his deputy or promote someone else. They want leadership continuity to avoid another leadership crisis.

In June, Wee mentioned that MCA's 191 divisions would discuss the party's future amid concerns about its influence in the government. A decision on the party's future in the unity government was expected at the assembly. Earlier, Wee stated that MCA would review its position in Barisan Nasional if its key ally, Umno, continued its cooperation with parties outside the coalition, especially DAP.

What do you think? Do you agree with Ti's assessment? Is MCA focusing too much on criticizing DAP, or is it a necessary strategy? Share your thoughts in the comments!
