Fatal Accident at Irish Glass Bottle Site: HSA Launches Investigation (2026)

A major investigation has been launched following a tragic 'fatal accident' at the Irish Glass Bottle construction site in Dublin. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) is leading the inquiry, with emergency services and Gardaí on the scene. The incident occurred at a site set for a massive residential development in Ringsend, a project that will eventually house thousands of people. The construction group Sisk, responsible for the first phase, confirmed they are investigating the circumstances. The HSA, meanwhile, has stated that a 'fatal incident' has taken place and no further details are available at this time. The development, known as Pembroke Beach, is a joint venture between the Ronan Group Real Estate (RGRE), US private-equity firm Oaktree, and development company Lioncor. The project aims to transform 15 hectares of industrial land into a vibrant residential and commercial hub, featuring up to 3,800 apartments and various community and office spaces. As of September 22nd, workplace fatalities in Ireland this year have reached 32, with a concerning 5 of those deaths occurring in the construction sector. This marks a 50% decrease in construction-related fatalities compared to 2023, which saw 10 deaths. However, the overall number of workplace fatalities in the construction industry between 2015 and 2024 stands at 92, highlighting the ongoing challenges in ensuring worker safety.
