The Future of Digital Collaboration: UP and Converge's Historic Meeting
In a groundbreaking development, representatives from the prestigious University of the Philippines and the innovative Converge ICT Inc. gathered on November 4th to initiate their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a pivotal step towards shaping the digital landscape of the Philippines.
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, where the real work begins. The MOU, signed on September 29th, is more than just a piece of paper; it's a roadmap to explore the uncharted territories of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
The first meeting, held at UP Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, focused on key areas of collaboration that could revolutionize the way we educate, prepare, and empower our youth. These areas included student development, workforce preparation, and academic enhancement, with a special emphasis on thought leadership and corporate social responsibility.
And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the technology. It's about the human element. The meeting also discussed opportunity creation and research collaboration, ensuring that the benefits of this partnership extend beyond the university walls and into the communities they serve.
Attending the meeting from UP were Vice President for Digital Transformation Peter Sy, who is leading the charge in ensuring UP stays at the forefront of digital innovation. Also present were Assistant VP for Academic Affairs Ma. Shari Niña Oliquino, ensuring the academic integrity of any collaborations, and Office of Student Development Services Director Tristan Nathaniel Ramos, who understands the importance of student engagement in these initiatives.
The AI Horizons PH Chair, Prospero Naval, brought his expertise to the table, along with UP Technology Transfer and Business Development Office Director Luis Sison and Deputy Director Jose Emmanuel Reverente, who are instrumental in translating research into real-world applications. Professor Rowel Atienza from UP Diliman Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute provided a critical engineering perspective.
Representing Converge, Senior VP and Head of People and Culture, Mylene Sardinia, brought her expertise in talent management. VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations, Jay-anne Encarnado, ensured the partnership was communicated effectively. Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Jennifer Ambanta, highlighted Converge's commitment to community development. James Mendoza, CEO of Converge Studios, brought his creative vision, while Patrick Coralde and Rene Franchesca Estacio of ComClark, along with Business Development Manager Apple Ongkiko and Data Center Infrastructure Sales Jason Encarnacion of Dell Technologies, provided insights into the business and technological aspects of the collaboration.
This meeting is just the beginning of a long journey. As we move forward, we must ask ourselves: How can we ensure that this partnership benefits not just the university and Converge, but also the wider community? How can we use this collaboration to empower the next generation of digital leaders? These are the questions that will shape the future of this partnership, and we invite you to join the conversation in the comments below. Let's discuss, debate, and dream together about the possibilities that lie ahead.
