Unleash Your Inner Astronomer: Mountain Recreation's Astronomy Club with Chuck Nash
Are you ready to explore the wonders of the night sky? Mountain Recreation is thrilled to announce a new Astronomy Club, offering a unique opportunity to learn about the cosmos from a local stargazing expert, Chuck Nash, aka the 'Colorado Star Man'.
The club will run every Thursday from January 15th to February 19th, 6 p.m., at the Gypsum Rec Center. Participants aged 15 and above can join for a fee of $75. But here's the exciting part: a free drop-in preview session is available on January 8th, allowing anyone interested to get a taste of what's to come.
Chuck Nash, an amateur astronomer, has a passion for sharing his love of the night sky. His journey began when he moved to the Rocky Mountains from California and was captivated by Eagle County's dark skies. The first time he pointed his telescope towards the heavens, he was amazed by the view. But what truly excites him is witnessing the joy of learning about the night sky, whether it's kids or adults.
'It's inspiring to see the beauty and vastness of astronomy,' Nash says. 'I love seeing the excitement on people's faces as they start learning about the eight planets and identifying celestial objects like the Orion and Felix nebulae. Kids, in particular, find it fascinating.'
During the series, Nash will guide participants through hands-on activities, covering celestial objects, telescope use, and techniques for observing stars, planets, and deep-sky features. The club is designed for beginners, but all experience levels are welcome.
'Chuck brings a sense of curiosity and approachability to astronomy,' says Anna Englehart, superintendent of recreational programs for Mountain Rec. 'This program is perfect for anyone who wants to explore the night sky and build a foundation in stargazing.'
