Unveiling the Forgotten Lens: Lady Mary Nolan's Captivating Photographs at Bundanon Gallery
In the heart of Bundanon, a captivating exhibition unfolds, shedding light on the artistic legacy of the Boyd family. This 1,000-hectare sanctuary, once the residence of renowned Australian artist Arthur Boyd and his wife Yvonne, now serves as a cultural haven. The latest showcase, titled 'The Hidden Line: Art of the Boyd Women,' pays tribute to the often-overlooked artistic contributions of the Boyd women. Among them is Lady Mary Nolan, a talented painter and potter whose lesser-known photographs take center stage in this exhibition.
Lady Mary, Arthur's sister, embarked on a remarkable journey. She welcomed four children with her first husband, the artist John Perceval, before relocating to London and marrying Sidney Nolan in 1978. While her artistic prowess as a painter and potter is recognized, her photographic talent has remained in the shadows until now. Forty-eight of her captivating photographs have been unearthed at the National Library of Australia, offering a unique glimpse into her artistic vision.
The exhibition, open at Bundanon gallery until February 15, 2026, invites visitors to explore the hidden gems of Lady Mary's photographic artistry. It serves as a reminder that even within the renowned Boyd family, there are untold stories and artistic treasures waiting to be discovered and celebrated.
